Charleston, South Carolina

The pictures needed explanation I think. And because I love the pictures, the place, and my new editor so much, I'm putting some more in here!

This is the view from my friend's house where we stayed. It backs onto this beautiful lake, there were so many birds around in the morning it was amazing! The wildlife there is incredible, the other side of their road backs onto a marshy area and then the sea. I don't know where else you find this kind of wildlife and landscape, it's so Southern. Beth and I pretty much lived on the balcony when we were in the house because it was so nice out there.

Downtown Charleston is beautiful. This is the view from the aquarium, but also the whole of the northern peninsula. I know the carriage rides are just tourist thing but it adds so much to the place, and just makes me picture all the pretty scenes in Gone With the Wind! I need to go back already, it's just so beautiful. How can the houses and buildings in the middle of a city be so pretty? Oh and by the way, below, my American sandwich (that wouldn't close!). Just another massive reason to love it out there!

One of the best parts - we went on a harbour dinner cruise! I've never done anything like that before, it was incredible! Who's done this before? I don't know where else you can, I'm sure there's several places, but Charleston is so beautiful it's bound to be one of the best :p In the background is the USS Yorktown. I'm into my military history so I sort of dragged everyone there another day. Well worth it!

The same house from before.. Drayton Hall, not where I stayed or anything. It's the oldest plantation house left in America in it's original condition. History geek alert. I've studied so much American history it was so amazing to be in an actual plantation house. I wanted to dress up as Scartlett...

While we were out there we got our university results! Let's just say they called for champagne! Beth was also having a birthday and graduation party over there for that side of the family and American friends so there was lots of cause for celebration (hence the cake in the last post - best cake I've ever had!) Probably drank a bit too much on this holiday for all the right reasons!
